Make a difference to the next generation.
Life can be difficult to navigate, and students don’t always graduate school having learnt everything they need to know.
Skills in how to manage money, build resilience, or land that first job often gets lost in favour of homework and exams.
At Student Edge, our mission is to equip young Australians with the critical life skills they need to meaningfully navigate the next stage of their education, as well as work and career in the future workforce.
Introducing Student Edge Plus—our new premium membership.
Student Edge Plus (SE+) helps young people develop the real-world skills to grow their independence, make informed career decisions and take control of their future outside of the classroom.
They have access to an inventory of bite-sized, easy-to-follow learning experiences. Lessons are made up of snackable videos and helpful activities led by experts that learners can progress through at their own pace. They are designed in line with school curricula and global frameworks and are continuously being updated.
Student Edge Plus members get access to courses that help them navigate the important life stuff like jobs, uni, and money. They’re organised into key learning pathways:
- Ready, Set, Uni
Uni’s a big investment in time and money. The Ready, Set, Uni Pathway prepares students for a meaningful uni journey that nurtures their interests and gifts. They learn frameworks to narrow down career options, discover what courses are right for them, understand the alternative entry methods, and learn how to ace university when they’re there—to name a few.
- Get Job Ready
Many teenagers feel on the backfoot when navigating their first job. And it shows with 49% of employers report a lack of soft skills among young people. In the Get Job Ready Pathway, students cover the job essentials, like getting clear on what jobs they’re best suited to, learning ways to stand out to employers, and critical skills needed to succeed in today’s work environment.
- Real Money Talk
It’s alarming the number of student graduate school without being financially literate. The Real Money Talk Pathway is about learning the financial foundations. Students get practical knowledge about tax, strategies to build a bigger pool of savings, an introduction to investing, setting up super, and the other absolute essentials.
Not only will these short courses help students gain a competitive edge with a bunch of new skills they can add to their resume, they will also be better equipped to tackle whatever life throws their way after school.
Why is this important?
Research from our YouthInsight team revealed areas students urgently needed more support in. Among these insights were a significant seventy per cent of students reporting that they’re concerned about their financial wellbeing, and forty-nine per cent of employers saying they found a soft-skills gap amongst early career professionals.
Student Edge Plus was born out of this need to empower students so they don’t have to feel scared of the unknown and be able to navigating certain life steps with more confidence and success.
